AusIMM recently released its post-conference report for World Gold 2019, which confirms what those involved already know, the event was an outstanding success. Over 400 delegates representing 187 companies and 25 countries attended the conference. Mintrex is proud to have been able to support such a well organised and relevant technical conference by presenting papers, contributing to the organisation and sponsoring the conference dinner.
The main theme of this year’s conference was: Unlocking Sustained Value from Gold Deposits. This conference covered all aspects of gold mining, including exploration, geosciences, mining (including geotechnical aspects), metallurgy (processing), environmental and related themes. Attendees were very fortunate to listen to some excellent plenary and keynote speakers from industry and academia during the conference. Two of the plenary speakers (Bill Beaumont and Jim Beyer) have managed various gold-related companies and they shared different aspects of their companies’ challenges in the industry. The other plenary speaker (Elizabeth Lewis-Gray) manages a major engineering firm known for their innovative capabilities in the mining industry over many years.
The conference had compiled an outstanding program for 2019. There were six excellent keynote speakers who each opened technical sessions during the conference covering topics mentioned above. The 66 technical papers were delivered by both tertiary institutions and industry. All papers (including eposter papers) published had been peer reviewed by two independent reviewers before being included in the conference proceedings (ISBN 978 1 925100 89 1). As a result, this conference proceedings publication contains a cross-section of the current views of the challenges facing the gold industry and how the industry can deal with these in the future to ensure a sustainable gold industry.
Mintrex presented three papers at the conference which included:
Having two key Mintrex people on the organising committee, Fiona Morgan, MD and Dr Leon Lorenzen, Executive Consultant as Conference Chair, we have seen first hand the quality of effort culminating in World Gold 2019 and would like to congratulate the entire organising committee and AusIMM on delivering a highly engaging, technical conference.
