AngloGold Ashanti Australia Ltd’s Sunrise Dam Gold Mine recently upgraded from the Metso C140 Primary Jaw Crusher to the C150 Crusher Model. As part of the upgrade, Mintrex was engaged by Sunrise Dam to provide detailed mechanical engineering design services for the crusher and its ancillaries and project management services in the form of budget development, cost tracking, schedule development and progress tracking of the crusher replacement project.
A major objective of the design was to stop spillage in the area. Considerable redesign and modification of the existing vibrating grizzly undersize chute and crusher feed chute interfaces were required.
Static and dynamic structural engineering checks were undertaken to determine if the existing concrete support structure was capable of supporting the new crusher loads. Modifications to the existing structures were required to accommodate the installation of the larger C150 crusher. As part of the replacement works, the vibrating grizzly and primary plate feeder were removed, refurbished and re-instated which added to the complexity of the work.

Mintrex was also part of the commissioning team which included AGAA Operations personnel, SMP and E&I contractors and vendors.
The project was completed well within the schedule and budget with emergent and opportune works completed during the timeframe. Shutdown works caused no delays to production and spillage was significantly reduced in the area. Overall the project successfully delivered the desired outcomes.
