Balla Balla Mine Export Facility – In June 2012 Mintrex were engaged by Forge Resources Limited (now Todd Minerals) to complete the Definitive Feasibility Study (DFS), for the stockyard and export facility for the proposed 10 Mtpa Magnetite plant located near Whim Creek in the Pilbara region of Western Australia.
The Barge Loading Facility (BLF) consisted of an automated stockyard with a 7 km long overland conveyor and 3 km long over-water conveyor to a single point barge loader. Material was delivered to the BLF by a slurry pipeline for dewatering prior to stacking.
The design developed by Mintrex was used to gain stakeholder, environmental and government approval for the stockyard and export facility.
Following on from the initial 10 Mtpa DFS and approvals process, Mintrex completed an additional study to expand the 10 Mtpa single user operation to a multi-user operation through various stages with the BLF achieving 45 Mtpa with a single barge loading arrangement.
The various options considered included material delivery by slurry pipeline, road haulage and rail haulage.
